NORTHAM Volunteer Fire and Rescue sent a running team to the State Open Championships in Busselton on the March long weekend.
The team had a successful weekend, winning several events and gaining valuable preparation for the Easter Championships.
Brigades travelled to Busselton from South Hedland, Kalgoorlie, Kellerberrin, Albany and other areas of the State to compete at the event.
The Northam firefighters took home the major trophy on handicap points.
Events included dry work, where individuals and pairs competed against the clock, setting up hoses and equipment. Wet work events involved teams racing down the track with the cart and hoses, racing to set up the pump and hoses to connect to water and be the first to hit the target.
Events were over in 20 to 30 seconds, so one mistake could prove costly.
However the team made few errors
in a successful weekend away.
A film crew attended the event and
filmed each competitor.
The footage will be used to create a
show promoting the sport and will be
telecast on Foxtel in the coming months.
