Next year’s prefects announced at final assembly for the year

THE Year 12 group at Northam Senior High School attended its final assembly on their last day of school on Friday, October 23.

After the national anthem the Year 12 group entered the gym to a slow hand clap from their fellow students, teachers and guests.

Principal John Pisan congratulated the graduating students and wished them luck in their future endeavours with a strong message to have a positive attitude in life and take the opportunities they are presented with.

At the assembly the school leaders for 2010 were announced and the traditional blazer hand over took place.

The prefects for 2010 are Phillip Faulkner, Tashi Bullman, Mitchell Nash, Tyanna Jankauskas, Mat Higgs, Sarah Hammond, Jacob Kidd, Kerry Buchanan, Jake Shaw and Sherrell Bond.

Also at the assembly the Cherbourg Contemporary Art prize was presented by sponsor Harry Lauk.

The winner in the upper school section was Lisa Mitchell and Rebecca Moe received a highly commended.

In the Lower school section Bonnie Lacey received first prize and Stephanie Dawson the highly commended.

The Principal’s award was presented to Liam Lacey for his art piece.

Three Defence Force Long Tan team work scholarships were presented to Jessica Wallace in Year 10, Sarah Hammond in Year 11 and Bryden Morgan from Year 12.

Dylan Hinton received a Citizenship award from Edith Cowan University for his impressive contribution to society and strong leadership skills.

The Most Valuable players for the eight teams that represented Northam at Country Week were also announced.

They were dance; Ally White, boys hockey; Brandon Ashworth, boys volleyball; Vince Bonser, touch rugby; Bryden Morgan, soccer; Alex Stevens, girls volleyball; Kristy Jolley, netball; Anthea Ferguson, girls basketball; Tiffany Cramer.

Forty representatives from the school recently competed at an Interschool Athletics Carnival in Perth following the factions sports.

The school placed fifth out of nine and athletes Phillip Faulkner, Aaron Dow, Erryn Hall and Toby Fillingham were awarded individual medals.

David Grafton was also presented with a medal for being a member of the State Schools Football Team earlier in the year.
