Funds to care for country

11 Feb, 2010 09:54 AM
AN INFORMATION session for the Caring for Country business plan was held at the Bridgeley Centre in Northam last Thursday.

Community members interested in the ongoing initiative which incorporates delivery of previous natural resource management programs including the Natural Heritage Trust, National Landcare Program, Environmental Stewardship Program, Working on Country Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program.

Locals heard how they can be involved in the $2 billion in funding to be provided over the first five years.

Caring for Country is a new way of delivering natural resource management, providing a business approach to investment.

The business approach provides a clear view of the highest priorities for the Australian Government.

It also identifies the outcomes and targets the Government is seeking to achieve and will select investments that will be effective, good value for money and carried out by organisations which are best placed to deliver results.
