THE completion of much of the pruning work on the Shire of Northam roads has meant a decline in the criticism of it.
Many complained about the bedraggled appearance of the trees which had been ‘super-mulched’ and the untidy debris around their base.
Leeder and Oyston Roads were the subject of considerable criticism.
“Since the work has been completed we have received compliments about the better vision,” said shire chief executive officer Neville Hale.
“These roads are now presenting themselves in a much tidier and safer manner with an improved line of sight.
“This was the intention of the work.”
There was also criticism of the pruning work on the Clackline-Toodyay road.
However, according to Mr Hale, there is a lot of work to be done on this road.
“In accordance with its status as a regional road we will be widening the seal from 5 metres to 7 metres,” he said.
“Because of this process there will be a partial realignment of some sections of the road to straighten out curves.
“We will have to re-establish table drains.
“Before we did all this work the trees were interfering with table drains and impeding proper maintenance.”
