YONGAH Hill Immigration Detention Centre is close to completion.
Although the Department of Immigration and Citizenship will provide no definite dates, commissioning of the facility should take place during next month.
It is understood members of the Community Reference Group will be taken on a tour of the facility and there will also be a media visit.
Although all workers on the site sign confidentiality agreements, some facts and purported facts have leaked.
The sports areas have had artificial turf laid and two soccer pitches would be the envy of most clubs.
A rumoured cost was $3.5 million, but the department says this is an exaggeration.
“The site preparation, a layer of asphalt and the artificial turf cost $1.4 million, within budget,” a department spokeswoman said.
“We do have a duty of care for the people in the centre.
“We also hope that the detainees will be able to participate in sports with local teams.”
